In a bid to raise awareness on the importance of safeguarding the environment to the residents of Kitalale settlement scheme, we celebrated World Environment day with the students of St Philips Tuuyo Koony Secondary School. We conducted a clean-up exercise of the nearby market and it involved collecting garbage and disposal and sensitization of local marketers of the importance of waste management and keeping the environment clean. We also planted trees in the school.
The event saw participation by Tuyoo Koony Primary School, Faith ECD, Adsony Primary School together with their teachers, MHAC (Manor House Agricultural Center), PELUM Kenya (Participatory Ecological Land Use Management), Board and PTA of the secondary school, The Chief and Sub Chief of the area, Area managers of the division, Area Education Officer, Provincial Development Education Officer of the zone and the County Rep.
Participants were informed of the importance of keeping the environment tidy and observing personal hygiene to avoid the outbreak of diseases. The ‘Maji Safi’ award was also given to the school to thank them for their dedication towards the project as the project was officially handed over to them.
