In a bid to raise awareness on the importance of safeguarding our environment to the residents of Kitalale settlement scheme, we celebrated World Environment Day in partnership with PELUM Kenya by conducting a cleanup and tree planting exercise with the students of St Philips Tuuyo Koony Secondary School, Tuuyo Koony Primary School, Ad Sony Academy, Faith ECD, Manor House Agricultural Centre (MHAC), the area administration and representatives from the Education office.
The clean up exercise was conducted in the nearby market and it involved picking litter, collecting garbage and disposal and sensitization of local marketeers by the markets chairman. They were informed of the importance of keeping the environment tidy and observe personal hygiene to avoid the outbreak of diseases.
Trees were also planted in the school compound by the students and the other participants. It was an opportunity for everyone to realize not only the responsibility to care for the Earth but to become agents of change.
